The season is over and planning for a new, redesigned, and more comprehensive web site is in progress. We have secured a new - and more intuitive - 'Domain' which will be: www.bdssx.org uk as yet there is little to see, migration and programming are expected to take up much of the dark winter nights.
2009 Events planned - so far!
Warnham Nature Reserve - Sam Bayley (ranger) can make Sunday 14th June. We will be leading the event but Sam hopes to come along and show us the hotspots. Pound Common, Chailey - The Chailey Common Society have suggested Saturday 18th July. Pound Common is the best for dragonflies (and they’ve told me the grid ref for the car park there) and it also happens to be the Common that they are focusing their surveying on in 2009 (each year they concentrate on a different Common). Not sure how long we could eek out at Pound Common but we can always move on to another Common in the afternoon if time allows. The Chailey Common Society will advertise this in their events leaflets too so we'll have some 'new blood!' They say that they don’t have a dragonfly recorder for the commons, they have plant, bird, fungi, butterfly recorders, so this could be a good opportunity to sort that out! Blackdown - Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd August David Elliott (Head Warden) is hoping to come along to say hello but if he can't make it he will mark a map showing the main areas of interest for us.
In the meantime there is much to read in the newsletter; together with a preview of planned field trips for 09.

The Group is essentially unfunded so all correspondence should be by e-mail (at end of page).
Whilst the Sussex group is independent,
it is also supportive of the "National Society". Members are encouraged to join the British Dragonfly Society,
for the modest subscription of £15 pa.which includes two issues of the informative newsletter and the annual, and more technical, research orientated, 'Journal of the British Dragonfly Society.'
